Train Driver Trainee Recruitment ProcessSo you have decided on the job you want to pursue, swotted up on what the job entails, learnt where to look for Trainee Train Driver vacancies, and now you have found one! Well done, now the hard work begins.... The recruitment process for Train Driver Trainee opportunities is incredibly stringent, with a fail rate of well over 90%, and passing all the tests, assessments, interviews and medicals still does not even mean that you have got the job! For the purposes of this website, I have broken the train driver trainee recruitment process down into 4 components. Stage1 - Application: filling out your application form/sending off your CV and covering letter Stage 2 - Assessment centre: the next stage of the process, encompassing the paper tests you will have to pass, as well as one structured interview held with an assessor. This stage has the highest failure rate, and as such will require the most preparation. Stage 3 - Final interview: Usually held with two driver managers. Not as difficult as the assessment centre tests and interviews, but it is still easy to mess up at this stage. Stage 4 - Medical: Should just be a formality, but there are health requirements for the job due to the safety critical nature of the job role. Update 16th April 2010: A new service has been launched which gives you online access to hundreds of train driver test questions. Yes - example questions which will be exactly the type of questions you have to answer in the train driver assessment. It even gives you the results so you know which areas you need to improve. I will give you detail on each stage drawn directly from my experiences. Although it may seem daunting at first that there are over 300 people applying for the one single vacancy you have also applied for, remember this - of those 300 very few would have done much preparation, if any at all. By simply being on this site, you have shown that you are a cut above most of the competition. Why is it so competitive? As I have already explained so far, the pay and conditions along with the other attractions of the job make this a high demand career. Particularly in these tough economic times. As such the train companies HR departments can afford to be picky, and will only select those who have done the best in the recruitment process. Be sure you are one of those chosen! In addition to reading this site, the how2become training company also have a useful DVD and book which gives lots of information on the recruitment process and job role, particularly in regards to what to put on your application form and CV, and what to expect in the interview. However, in my opinion the most useful thing they provide is the practice materials - practice group bourdon tests, pyschometric tests, and mechaniclal tests, and the trainability test. They also provide example interview questions. Its priced at £10, you can read more about it here Go to next page: Stage 1: - Application>>>>>
